Two Separate Payments Required:
Payment 1: To U.S. Department of State
Check or money order only. The check must be the correct amount or it may delay the processing of your application.
Passport book: $130 (age 16+), $100 (under 16)
Passport card: $30 (age 16+), $15 (under 16)
Extra: $60 for faster service, $23.36 for 1–3 day shipping (optional)
- Submit a check (personal, certified, cashier's, traveler's) or money order payable to "U.S. Department of State."
- Write the applicant’s name and date of birth in the memo section.
Payment 2: To the University of Minnesota
$35 acceptance fee and $15 photo fee payable by credit/debit card, cash, check, money order.

Passport book or card?
The fees listed here are for a standard Passport Book. The application fee will vary if you choose to apply for a Passport Card or both. Decide which is best for you.
How soon do you need your passport?
- Routine processing is 4 to 6 weeks*.
- Expedited processing is 2 to 3 weeks* and requires an extra fee.
- If you are traveling in less than 2 weeks call the State Department's Minneapolis Passport Agency for an appointment at 1-877-487-2778. Our office is unable to assist you with emergency or last-minute passports.
- An optional priority mail express option (additional fee of $23.36) is recommended if you need your passport soon.
